Cozy Fall Morning Routine

I always like to reset my morning routine in fall. Waking up in the fall just has a different vibe than waking up in the summer. The weather is a bit colder so you don’t have as much motivation to get out of bed. Also depending on where you live the days might be getting shorter! Incorporating some of these into your morning will help you feel excited for fall as you say goodbye to summer.

1. Wake up earlier

You might think this is a horrible idea and won’t get you excited for fall. But trust me if you give yourself a little extra time in the morning you can relax and enjoy your morning. Most of the time we are rushing to get out of the house. Fall usually comes with a lot of new changes in school, work, etc. Try to wake up 10-15 minutes earlier than you usually do and take your time to get ready.

I usually like to get ready and then come back to bed and cozy up before I have to go to work. Don’t worry I don’t change out of my pyjamas until I have to leave the house. I might spend a few minutes on my phone or cuddle with my husband. I just find having the time to snuggle up and get cozy to be very relaxing before I have to start my busy day.

2. Drink your coffee at home

Many people don’t usually have time to drink coffee in the morning as they rush to get out the door. Or they will go to a drive-thru to pick-up their morning coffee. Drinking your coffee at home will not only help you enjoy the cozy fall weather but also save you some money!

I like to have coffee with me at work so I can sip it through the day. So what I do is I pack most of my copy in my thermos and pour a little into a cup for me to sip on in the morning. This way I can enjoy both options!

3. Read a new book

Reading can be very relaxing and you can do this at the same time as you drink your coffee! If you are new to reading and don’t know where to start join a reading group either in person or online. You can also look up the top books in certain genres or look at BookTok on TikTok for inspiration.

You don’t have to read for a long time, you can start by reading a few pages each day in the morning. It’s not a huge commitment and it will help you get into the cozy fall vibe. If you don’t enjoy reading you also have the option of listening to the audiobook version!

4. Journal

Journaling is a great way to de-stress and let out all your worries before your start your day. The type of journaling you want to do is up to you! You can write a dream journal, a gratitude journal, a personal journal etc. Whichever type appeals to you the most or you can mix it up to make it a little more exciting!

Buy a blank notebook and look for writing prompts online to save a little bit of money. Or if you want to splurge buy a guided journal that gives you prompts and inspiration to help guide and organize your thoughts.

I also used to be a big fan of brain dumps, where I would write anything that causing me anxiety or stressing me out on a piece of paper. That way it wasn’t all just swirling in my head by I could see it physically on paper. After I wrote down everything, I would organize it into things that I can act on, things that can wait, and things that I can’t do anything about. I found this to be very helpful in reducing the burden of thoughts that kept running through my mind.

5. Stretch

Everyone can be a bit stiff in the morning when they wake up. Stretching can help you get your body ready for the day. You can do light stretching or you can do something a bit more advanced like yoga. There are tons of options out there to help you stretch in the morning. You can look at free videos on YouTube or find free apps to follow. Or you can subscribe to a fitness program like Apple fitness.

Stretching will help keep you flexible as you age as well. So not only will it help you relax in the present, it’ll also help to prevent and reduce injuries in the future.

6. Wear a scarf

End your morning routine by grabbing your favourite scarf! Having a scarf to wear during the day will help you stay cozy at work. It will also help yo keep you warm if the weather gets colder. Most offices also don’t turn the heat on until winter so your office or workplace might start to get a bit colder than usual.

I hope this list helps you have a cozy fall this year and builds up your excitement as we say goodbye to summer!
