My husband and I somehow ended up with a lot of Tupperware containers. Some of these were gifted during our wedding and some we picked up along the way. Other plastic containers are from food delivery that we find useful to for leftovers and such.
One of my worst habits was just throwing my Tupperware into the cupboard wherever I could find space. It was a huge hassle trying to find the right size and the right lid when I needed it. I would spend more time than necessary just finding a container for my lunch. This started to be one of the worst parts of my morning especially when I was running late.
Initially, I thought of buying one of those fancy organizers but didn’t want to spend on something that I might not use. I also am currently trying not to buy things I don’t need. Especially since this is not my forever home. I would rather try and get by without spending on items that I might not use in a few months or years.
After organizing my Tupperware, I can honestly say you don’t really need those fancy gadgets to help you get organized. I just followed 3 simple steps and was able to organize everything in under an hour.
Here’s what my cupboard looked like before and after I organized. Follow the steps below to help yourself get organized as well!
1. Take out all your Tupperware and food storage containers
Take out all your Tupperware and food storage containers and place them on a table nearby.
2. Sort the food storage containers by size and shape
Sort the containers by shape and size. Place the matching lids near the containers. Put any single containers or lids to a side in case you find the missing piece. Remove any damaged containers and place them in recycling.
3. Place the Tupperware and food storage containers back in the cupboard in an organized fashion
Place the most used Tupperware in the most accessible spot and place the least used Tupperware in the more inconvenient spots. I placed my lunch and snack containers on the lower shelf because I use these almost everyday. I place larger storage containers on the top shelf because I use them less often. I placed food delivery plastic containers around the corner in the hidden part of the cupboard.
I placed similar sized containers near each other and placed the lids either beside or in front of the container. For the larger Tupperware I placed the lid on the container.
